Description

The Beava Backer Board 1200x800x12mm is a high-density, durable board made from fibre cement. This backer board is perfect for wall tiling applications, and can be applied directly to wooden studwork, providing a strong and stable surface for your tiles, ensuring long-lasting performance and protection.

Q: Where can I use this board?

A: It’s ideal for wall and floor tiling in bathrooms, kitchens, and other wet or high-traffic areas. The 12mm thickness provides extra strength and rigidity, making it suitable for heavy-duty applications.

Q: Is the board water-resistant?

A: Yes – it is resistant to water, mould, and termites, so it won’t warp or degrade in damp environments.

Q: What fire rating does it have?

A: The Beava Backer Board carries an A1 fire rating, the highest possible classification.

Q: How much does each board weigh?

A: Approximately 13kg per board.

Q: How many boards come on a pallet?

A: A full pallet contains 75 boards.

Q: Do I need to prime the board before tiling?

A: Yes priming is required – This is something that is always recommended when using fibre cement boards as it improves water resistance and also the adhesive of you tile adhesive or other wet mixes.

Q: Can the boards be cut easily?

A: Yes – for the best results, use a Beava Diamond blade or alternatively you can use a score and snap tool.

Q: Why choose Beava Backer Boards over plasterboard or plywood?

A: Beava Backer Boards are stronger, water-resistant, and longer-lasting. Unlike plasterboard or timber, they won’t swell, rot, or break down when exposed to moisture.

Q: How should the boards be laid – rough or flat side up?

A: Both sides can be used, but we generally recommend laying them with the smooth side facing out. This gives a neater surface to work on — especially if the boards will be painted or wallpapered, as the smooth side provides a much cleaner, more even finish.
