Q: Where can I use this board?
A: It’s ideal for wall and floor tiling in bathrooms, kitchens, and other wet or high-traffic areas. The 12mm thickness provides extra strength and rigidity, making it suitable for heavy-duty applications.
Q: Is the board water-resistant?
A: Yes – it is resistant to water, mould, and termites, so it won’t warp or degrade in damp environments.
Q: What fire rating does it have?
A: The Beava Backer Board carries an A1 fire rating, the highest possible classification.
Q: How much does each board weigh?
A: Approximately 13kg per board.
Q: How many boards come on a pallet?
A: A full pallet contains 75 boards.
Q: Do I need to prime the board before tiling?
A: Yes priming is required – This is something that is always recommended when using fibre cement boards as it improves water resistance and also the adhesive of you tile adhesive or other wet mixes.
Q: Can the boards be cut easily?
A: Yes – for the best results, use a Beava Diamond blade or alternatively you can use a score and snap tool.
Q: Why choose Beava Backer Boards over plasterboard or plywood?
A: Beava Backer Boards are stronger, water-resistant, and longer-lasting. Unlike plasterboard or timber, they won’t swell, rot, or break down when exposed to moisture.
Q: How should the boards be laid – rough or flat side up?
A: Both sides can be used, but we generally recommend laying them with the smooth side facing out. This gives a neater surface to work on — especially if the boards will be painted or wallpapered, as the smooth side provides a much cleaner, more even finish.
